Boulder Aikikai was established by Hiroshi Ikeda in 1980 for the study of the Japanese martial art of Aikido.
The dojo is affiliated with the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, through the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba organization.
Boulder Aikikai is a federal non-profit educational organization and welcomes all students who can safely participate in our programs. All of our classes are open for free observation.
Boulder Aikikai offers ongoing open enrollment for beginning students with no previous aikido experience during our weeknight 6pm classes (Monday through Friday). There is no need to preregister and you may start on any date. Beginning students will be welcome to attend any combination of weeknight 6pm classes and the Sunday 11:30am class.
This month's kata focus class will take place on Saturday, March 27th from 10:00am until 11:30am. Its topic will be shihonage, and include aspects such as ukemi, hanmi-handachi, etc. in addition to some general details.
Regarding the kata focus class: On the last Saturday of each month, there will be a focus class to inquire into kata. Specifically, it will involve examination of the purpose and function of certain aspects, as well as making some details clear based on an Aikikai Hombu standpoint. Infrequently seen variations may also be covered.
As we celebrate our 30th Annual Aikido Summer Camp in the Rockies, we reflect upon the many bonds of friendship that have taken root and grown strong over the years. Aikidoists of all styles, from all walks of life, and from many corners of the globe have trained together on our mats, manifesting on a small order O’Sensei’s dream.
Note: Online registration for the full and non-training plans is now closed, but we are still accepting paper registrations for those plans. (Online registration for independent plans is still open.) Please be sure to send in your postal registration for full or non-training plans soon before the waiting list begins!
